On the Streets of KL

my mom and i walked through jalan masjid india today (and its counter parts) in search for good looking fabrics for baju raya..since we were in the area, we decided to drop by the PAM office to hand in the arch-inquiry claim..

kl being kl, public transport is usually a walk away from wherever you need to go (with the exception of klcc and ampang park ofcourse)..especially in this case, we were headed to jalan tangsi which is located in the middle of nowhere (seriously)..

so we walked all the way from masjid jamek lrt station to dataran merdeka, then cut through the royal selangor club to end up on jalan kinabalu (i think..)..as we arrived in front of the Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library (which was gorgeous-ly reanimated), there was a saviour to my right..

there we found a new and improved public toilet facility..i had to pay 20 cents to enter, but i honestly would have paid RM1 if i had to..not just because i really had to go, but it was a public toilet to be proud of..operating under one of those "urban-tropical-open-toilets" concept, it was really comfortable and clean..a big two thums up to KL..

as our adventure continues, my mom and i had to walk a little further down Selangor Club (back towards the direction we came from because we kinda got lost) then turn left and cross under a fly-over to get to the PAM head-quarters..there, right before we went under the fly-over, we met a creepy malay man walking towards our direction..

he was obviously a drug addict; high and unstable, gripping a knife with a red handle in his right hand..i was too blur to realize what was going on (just to freakin cross the road is a walk of death in kl!) but my mom had already began directing me away..

luckily for us (hehe..but pity them though), there was a mat salleh couple walking slightly ahead of us on our right..i guess the addict felt he could get more by harassing tourists so he adjusted his bearings and headed straight for the mat salleh guy calling "hey, brother!"..they were also quite quick to react, the lady had made a wide detour and the guy took it upon himself to fend the guy off casually..

we were all very very lucky that the creepy guy (maybe feeling a little threatened somehow) probably doubted himself and decided to walk away..my mom, utterly freaked out, dragged me through under the fly-over and persisted we should just call a cab back home as soon as we're done at PAM..

so we did..

that was my KL adventure for today..although dramatic and tiring, at least we got a lot done..KL is quite a circus when it comes down to it..but within this circus, there's so many wonderful things hiding behind its old walls and bustling vehicles..i love it so much, and i hate it at times too..a love-hate relationship; so extremely addictive :-)
